Music
Music Leader: Kat Wallbridge
At Christ Church Junior School, we want our music curriculum to inspire creativity, enjoyment and a love of music. We want children to be exposed to a diverse range of music from different genres as well as different cultures and encourage them to find their own passion for music. We aim for all children to develop their singing, playing, composition and performance skills and to become confident in a range of music skills.
Singing
We are passionate that children at CCJ find joy in singing and are confident to perform in front of an audience. Each week, we have a singing assembly where the children learn a a variety of songs from different genres, traditions and cultures. In years 3 and 4, we have additional singing practice lead by a specialist to prepare for the school nativity. In year 5, children work with the charity Voices For Life and perform a musical production at St George's Hall in Bristol. In 2023, the whole school was involved in recording our very own CD with a range of songs performed by children and staff!
Choir
Each week, we have two choirs - the minors' choir (year 3) and the majors' choir (years 4, 5 and 6). These are lead by a singing specialist and our choirs perform regularly including at our church services, end of year assemblies and out and about in our community, such as at William Court, a local residence for elderly people.
Learning to play instruments
At CCJ, children are able to take part in additional Rock Steady music lessons, where they have the opportunity to learn drums, electric guitar, bass guitar and keyboard. Children perform three times a year in a concert for parents, carers and the rest of the school. In addition, all children have the opportunity to play a range of instruments in class as part of our music curriculum.
